Marathon is a classic first-person shooter video game where the player must save a space station from alien attacks. It was developed in 1994 and is similar in style to Doom, Wolfstein 3D, and Duke Nukem 3D. The game's story takes place in the invaded space station Marathon, and the player's mission is to eliminate the aliens and repair the defense system. The game can be played on Windows, Linux, and Mac thanks to its open-source graphic engine Aleph One. Though the servers tend to be empty now for online play, it does allow playing with friends. The game includes typical management for games of this style but has news that until then had not been seen, such as the physics engine used at that time. At present, many users do not find it attractive due to its dated visual style and sound effects; however, fans of science fiction literature will enjoy its story.
