Xonotic is an FPS, a first-person shooter game, which will quickly show users that it has elements that have been taken from other reference titles in the segment, such as Unreal Tournament or Quake III. In any case, its creators never deny this; in any case, they present us with an entertainment proposal that has convinced us.

Xonotic is based on the free first-person shooter Nexuiz, which was later sold and licensed by its creator. Many developers who collaborated in the generation of that entertainment proposal continued working together. In this way, we met shortly after with our protagonist of today.

The first thing you have to bear in mind when thinking about Xonotic is that it is an open-source title, which means that not only is it free when you download it now, but also that all its contents are free and that this situation will not change. And although its creators proposed it as "the best open source shooter game," and we can see that it doesn't earn so much praise, the truth is that it's worth a look.

One of the strong points that we will already mention about Xonotic and that we believe is vital in having a good time entertaining us is the massive amount of game modes that it offers us, of course very different from each other. To clarify, when we think of Xonotic, we find a title that proposes up to 16 game modes to its players. Yes, you read that right; 16 different game modes between them.

Of course, it is worth mentioning some of the most well-known game modes, among which we find to capture the flag or the confrontations in which only the only survivor of a combat arena wins. And although Xonotic is indeed designed primarily to establish combat against enemies in a campaign format, we also liked the one-on-one duel modes very much.

And likewise, the game modes you select will be fundamental to participate in one or another type of map, taking into account that the scenarios are also varied and that you will be able to discover them. At the same time, you enjoy the different combat formats.

Another essential aspect to explain the success that this game can have is related to the extreme speed that it acquires once the action starts, becoming fast-paced to the point that it won't give you a break in many moments. And beyond the traditional movements a player can perform, many other extraordinary jumps will allow you to cover large areas of land quickly.

Of course, you have to look at the number of bullets available in each of the weapons, and in case you run out of ammunition, it is imperative that before continuing, you take the trouble to buy new ones. As with most of these kinds of games, you are winning the different battles and confrontations is essential to obtain earnings that you can later exchange for products.

How about Xonotic's graphics? Is it among the best in its category? Well, undoubtedly not, although we can not say that the environment and movements are wrong and that the design is poorly worked. While it is true that it is easy to find other FPS that have the better quality from the aesthetic point of view, we are sure that no one will stop playing Xonotic just because of this issue.

It is then time to analyze the main strengths of Xonotic, and in this sense, we believe that it is worth taking into account some of them, such as its many different game modes, thanks to which you will find one that you will enjoy. To that, you must add that we have a wide variety of weapons and vehicles available to reinvent the fun all the time.

It is also clear that if there are no perfect games, Xonotic is not either. Therefore among the questions that have ended up convincing us less of this title, it is possible to point out some as that there are hardly any players connected on the servers if we want to enjoy the Multiplayer Mode or that the graphics engine at times bares that it is a fairly old title compared to other similar ones.

In any case, we are sure that if you are a lover of most FPS games, and especially if you have liked some installments of the segment as the aforementioned Unreal Tournament or Quake III, Xonotic can make you have a good time. Remember that this is an entirely free game, open source, and has minimum requirements well below average so that you can install it on almost any computer.
