FreeCol is a free and open source game that challenges players to build and expand their own empire. It shares similarities with Civilization, as players must develop their colony, conquer new lands, exploit natural resources, and form powerful armies to confront neighboring towns. The game offers various choices when selecting the type of empire players want to develop and where in the world they want it to expand. However, difficulties arise as players progress due to natives refusing cooperation or hostile attacks from neighboring towns. The ultimate goal is for players' empire to declare independence by eliminating all other towns on the map. FreeCol also features an individual mode or multiplayer mode that allows players to lead an empire each with friends or against AI. Managing raw materials such as food (corn/fish), wood, iron, and silver is crucial for your troops' welfare and construction possibilities while making profits through selling minerals like silver affecting gameplay development.
