PeerGuardian 2 is an IP filtering software that blocks the IP addresses of organizations and companies that may harm user privacy while using the internet and peer-to-peer networks. It does not require any driver installation and blocks IP addresses much faster than its predecessor. The software collects IP addresses from Blocklist.org, a website that allows users to interact with specific organizations' or companies' blocked IP addresses. PeerGuardian 2 operates at kernel-level on Windows 2000 and above, blocking all protocols. However, on Windows 98 or Me operating systems, it only blocks TCP traffic. Users can allow individual IPs temporarily or permanently through context menus, view allowed and blocked connections in a history viewer, and configure advanced settings such as logging and preventing certain websites from being blocked. PeerGuardian 2 comes with several predefined block lists but also allows users to create their block lists and edit them. The software offers an easy-to-use interface with a protection tab and a settings tab, integrated update system for downloading the latest block lists, and a system tray version for controlling the program from the notification area.
