ShareX is a free software to take screenshots on Windows.
Capture the Windows screen is rather simple, there are plenty of programs to perform this task, even the own Windows brings a rudimentary tool for making screenshots. Pressing the "Prt Scr" we get a desktop screenshot. This tool is good, but normally we need something more to make screenshots easily, quickly and efficiently.
ShareX is an ideal solution to make screen captures, since it allows full screen captures, only a window or selected region. In addition to the basic characteristics that we have just mentioned, this program has a number of features that make it very handy, for example:
- Screen capture of a particular monitor. If we have multiple monitors, we can select which of them capture.
- Screenshots with the corner rounded, ellipse, triangle, polygon-shaped or diamond.
- Screenshot with the shape that we want to thanks to his Free Hand selector.
Another important feature is the ability to record what is happening on the screen, create video files or animated gifs. This option is very good, since we can record a video of our full desktop or a part of it, with just pressing a key combination.
Once we have made the screenshot we can edit it: crop, rotate, resize, add borders, etc. We can also tweak the settings as: brightness, black and white, saturation, scale of greys, etc. We can even apply more than one dozen of filters.
We can easily add text annotations, draw geometric figures, draw arrows or lines, and add a watermark. So we can avoid to open an image editor software, to perform these simple tasks.
When the screenshot is taken, we can choose to save it to the hard drive, copy it to the Clipboard, print it or upload it to the Internet.
At the time of upload the screenshots to the Internet, we have multitude of images servers to upload, such as: imgur.com, flickr.com, imageshack.us, photobucket.com, and more.
We can also upload them to files servers such as: Google Drive, rapidshare, mega.co.nz, dropbox.com and more.
We can even upload automatically screenshots to Twitter.
Once we've uploaded images to the Internet, this software gives us the possibility of using a shortening URLs services as: tinyurl.com, bit.ly, goo.gl, and more.
All these features make ShareX full featured software, which covers the vast majority of needs when we want to make screenshots. Despite the impressive features, the software is free and the source code is available to study it or modify it.
