Whether it is to connect with your loved one while they’re living far away from you or to attend a business meeting without actually being there, Skype is a revolutionary tool designed to break the impediments created by distance and allowing you to talk to people from all over the world. There have only been a handful of tools that have streamlined long-distance communication, and Skype has ushered in a better age of modern connectivity.

Now, you may still be apprehensive about trying out Skype. But, why? It’s because we believe long-distance communication comes along with an outrageous telephone bill at the end of the month. That would have been the case if Skype had been a traditional medium of communication, but Skype isn’t. In fact, it is entirely free if you have an internet connection, and the paid plans are remarkably cheaper than what you’d get from the average telephone bill.

Therefore, what is Skype exactly? This online telecommunications software was developed back in 2003 but has since adopted drastic changes in their design and functionality to offer the best method of communication among users. It is particularly well-known among companies due to the professional user interface it provides along with a web of other features. However, it is not only restricted to professional environments as individuals can use it for personal reasons as well.

How to Set Up Skype

Setting up Skype is not at all a difficult task. The first thing that you do is to download it for the software to be installed in your computer system. You may have an existing Skype account from before, but if you don’t, you can easily create one inside of the software after installation.

You can create your account with either an email address or a phone number, and this is completely without charge. Even if you do use a phone number to create an account, you will not be billed for outgoing calls unless you choose a subscription plan.

After you create an account, you should be able to log into your newly made Skype account. You can either import your existing contacts from your phone contact book or your computer’s recorded logbook. If you do not want to follow that step, you can also search up people you may know through the Search Skype box, typing in either their real name or Skype name.

Once you have all of this done, you should first have a text call with Echo. This is an online sound testing service within Skype where you ring them up using the call icon on the upper right-hand corner, listen to a recorded message, speak a few lines before hearing yourself talking back. You can check the clarity of your speech through this service, ensuring that your voice is clear on calls to real people later on.

What Can You Do with Skype?

Skype’s set of features are extensive, and in some cases, unique to competing telecommunication brands such as Messenger. Features such as sending and receiving documents, such as spreadsheets and PDFs have marked Skype an established tool for communication over the past few years.

You can also share your screen with someone through skype, showing presentations with co-workers, or watching a movie with your loved one despite the distance. In addition to the free calls made available to users of Skype, you can also call people with landline or phone numbers through Skype with minimal charges to your account. There’s also the option of sending SMS messages, again to both Skype users and non-users.

One unique feature maintained by Skype that isn’t normally provided by other brands is its Wi-Fi hotspots. If you’re someone who’s constantly on the move and have trouble finding an internet connection in different countries, you can easily use Skype Credit to pay for internet provided by Skype themselves through their 2 million Wi-Fi hotspots all over the world.

Connect with People from Anywhere in the World!

Skype has changed communication systems since it was first introduced to everyone. It has since been the standard tool of telecommunication used by massive corporations and normal users worldwide, heralding it the modern medium of connectivity.

Through Skype, your resources are boundless and for users with an internet connection, everything is provided with no charge whatsoever. If you had ever imagined a world that is free and connected, it is Skype that has brought reality to a dream. Download your Skype software today!
