If you are a PC gamer, chances are that you-ve heard about something called Origin. So, just what is this Origin thing people talk about on the internet?
Origin is the online platform created by EA, which will allow you to purchase and play different games. This was EA's way of going pretty much full digital on PC, and sort of a response to Valve's Steam.
In the same way as Steam, Origin is much more than just an online game store. You get special offers and something like a trophy system to reward players. Sure, all of the games you can purchase are EA's own games, but it's certainly worth a try.
Once you create your account, you can download and install the launcher to your desktop; there you'll have a shelf of your purchased digital games. But in the app, there's also a tab to check your friends' activities and share different content.
Why use Origin?
Using this software doesn't mean that you're going to be leaving Steam or your other PC gaming platform. Nor is it an alternative, as the games you can choose from are not comparable. Steam has a much bigger library, giving you thousands of more options, and being a popular place for indie game developers.
All your platforms can cohabitate in your desktop in peace, especially since they all offer you different and unique game titles. Probably the strongest point this software has to offer game-wise is that it's the best way to get The Sims games. Not only are they available, with all their expansions and additional content, but the sales are amazing too.
Prices go really low in amazing titles such as The Sims 4 and Battlefield. It is also known for giving some of its games for free from time to time. Origin accounts are completely free, but there are also premium alternatives. You can become a Premier member, which will earn you Early Access.
With Early Access, you can get your favorite titles, downloadable content, and new games ahead of time. These are not demos, but the full thing. But being a Premier member will also give you a 10% discount on your future purchases. Being a Premier member will cost you $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year.
But if being a Premier member seems a bit too pricey for you but still wants a more premium experience than basic, there's an alternative for you. Basic Access is the cheaper premium membership Origin offers you. The 10% discount is still there with the Basic package, but rather than getting early access to the full games; you can download demos of them.
These demos are released before the full game does, and you can save your progress from the demos and use that save file should you decide to purchase the full title once it's released. This membership comes at a much more affordable price of $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year.
