La trama del gioco si svolge dopo la caduta del Regno, uno dei gruppi di sopravvissuti guidati da Ezekiel. Il giocatore deve costruire la sua comunità e combattere contro i pericoli del mondo post-apocalittico, tra cui clan nemici e zombie.

Per quanto riguarda la relazione del gioco con la serie TV, The Walking Dead: Survivors presenta una serie di personaggi, come Rick, Maggie ed Ezekiel. I giocatori possono anche aspettarsi di trovare un'atmosfera simile a quella della serie, con una grande quantità di azione, tensione e dramma. Ogni personaggio ha abilità e statistiche uniche che lo rendono più efficace nelle situazioni di combattimento. I giocatori possono sviluppare questi personaggi man mano che acquisiscono esperienza e risorse nel gioco.
