Valorant is the shooter that has more tactics
Valorant is the new character-based shooter that takes shooting to the next level.
Valorant is a game from the company behind League of Legends. Like that game, and like all of the company's products, the game seeks to be much more strategic.
It has simpler colors and seeks to be less flashy in this than Fortnite, its direct competitor.
The games consist of a five vs. five, with a different gameplay to Fortnite. And is that already, from the beginning, a completely different game?
The game begins with a purchase phase, in which all players must choose their weapons with in-game money. Thus the team must share responsibilities, and communication will be vital. Thus the money is also distributed among the group. Therefore from the beginning, the game has much more focus on organization and resource management. A team that has better communication can win no matter what.
As I said before, there are characters in the game that are vital. There are 11 in total, and each has its characteristics influencing the gameplay. Thus there are the typical characters, in which there is the one that allows you to heal, the one that will enable you to serve as "informer" and communicator of the team or others that have aggressive skills but also have their cons. Thus the balance of the team will be ideal, and no characters are better than others.
Thus, this game seeks to position itself as a strategic game, unlike the shootouts that happen in other games, where you have to shoot for the sake of shooting and shoot everywhere. So every game has something different in the logic, and it will not always be the same basic shooting.
One of the negative points of this game is that since team play and strategy are so important, playing a game with strangers will not be the best way. Even though they are teams of 5 (and that's a manageable number to get), if you don't have friends to play with, the experience will be very different.
Another one would be that there is no story in the game. It seems like it's like that just because. No development is given about the characters or the maps.
The characters have their characteristics but don't have significant development. It's pretty basic in that sense. They have differences in appearance and game interactions but no character development.
One thing we can add is that Riot Games doesn't try very hard to innovate, but that doesn't have to be negative. It's a mix between Counter-Strike and Overwatch. It has features of both.
The playability has specific characteristics of Counter-Strike, and the characters have a lot of similarities with those of Overwatch.
We say that the gameplay is similar to Counter-Strike because it has that complex learning curve, and the mechanics are identical. In addition, the games last until the team wins 13 games. We can say that the plays last up to 40 minutes in general, and you can spend your time in these.
Something we can highlight, and that is an advantage for many who are not willing to pay a lot for a game, is that the game is free.
But free games make their money by selling you accessories. To get all the skins of a character, four skins of weapons, one of the knives, and a couple of extras, you will have to pay approximately 100 dollars. It's not an option for everyone.
Plus, all the other customizations will cost you extra. But that's the part where they can profit.
As for competition, it has, and lots of it. Thousands of companies try to position themselves as the best in the shooting game field. Fortnite is a tough competition, and it has recently become trendy. But we can't say that all shooters are the same. Fortnite, with its building features and frantic gameplay, falls into another category of shooters.
This game is more like Counter-Strike, or Rainbow Six Siege because it is a much more tactical game in which the team that communicates the most and does so effectively prevails.
This shooter tries to position itself as a game for strategy lovers, who prefer a good game that is more "realistic" and calmer than one in which you can jump and shoot back and forth.
That's why I say it's not direct competition to Fortnite or the Call Of Duty.
Also, this game is not a Battle Royale, a modality in which you play solo against others who also play solo, so it no longer positions it as competition.
If you have ever enjoyed Counter-Strike or Overwatch, I am sure you will like this game.
If you haven't played the previous games, I recommend trying it because it's a formula that can't fail. A Shooter with tactics tries to move away from the frenetic way of playing the shooters of today, which end up looking absurd.
It goes back to the older shooters, but it's still a lot of fun with renewed aesthetics.
