One negative may be that characters that reach a much higher level will require a lot of materials to achieve that feat, and if you want to get the strongest ones, these will start to cost a lot as the rarest cards become difficult to get.

Another negative aspect is that you don't have the option to meet other players since the PVP battles are against the machine.
