doPDF is a free software that makes it easy to create PDF files from any application that allows to print.

PDF format is very common and is used by a large number of users and companies. The great success of this format is because it can be displayed on almost all devices available on the market (PC, Mac, mobile phones, tablets, etc.). If at any time we are going to distribute a text document to a multitude of people, PDF format will be a great choice to save our document. There are specific software for PDF files creation, but they tend to be solutions of a high price and with features that maybe we're never going to use. There are simpler and free solutions like the following one.

doPDF allows easy PDF files creation, because its mode of operation is simple, at the same time powerful. When we install this program it will add a new printer to our Windows system. This printer is called “doPDF”, and we will be able to choose it in the print dialog. For example, if we create a document in a text editor, such as MS-Word, we can create the PDF file by clicking on the option “Print” and selecting “doPDF” printer. It will display a window where we should enter the path and name of the PDF file that we are going to generate. We can also choose the quality of the PDF file (the higher the quality, the more space it occupies on the hard disk, and vice versa). We can also choose to include the fonts used in the PDF file. In this way, we'll be sure that the user who receive our document, will see the text with the same format as we have written. This option increases file size.

When we install the program we can choose to install a plug-in of novaPDF (developer of the software) for MS-Office. This will integrate a tab in Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Visio, which allows us to generate a PDF file in a simple way.

PDF files generated by the program, allow us to search text inside it. That is to say, the generated PDF file is a real text document and not an image. So that we can make use of the reader PDFs search engine to find the word or phrase that we were looking for.

Thanks to the “Virtual printer” installed, we will have similar options to real printers. For example, we can configure the document orientation (portrait or landscape), page size (A4 or letter), create several copies of the same document, and choose resolution of the contained images in the document. We can access to this printer from the Windows control panel, like any other “real” printer that is installed on the PC. From the printer control panel, we can print a test page to check the status of the “Virtual Printer”.

The program is updated frequently, so that we can select the option “Check for updates automatically”, and set the frequency of checking: daily, weekly, or monthly.
