BeCyIconGrabber is a simple and free program, that serves to extract icons/cursors from Windows executable and libraries files (.exe, .dll, etc.)
The icons and cursors that are displayed on the software for Windows are contained within the software itself. If for any reason we want to extract the icons or cursors, we must have a specialized program. We could make a screenshot of the icon/cursor, but this process is not the most optimal, because extracting the icons/cursors, we will obtain the original images and in different sizes.
With BeCyIconGrabber we can explore Windows file system, and see the icons/cursors contained by files with extensions: .exe, .ocx, .cpl, .src, .ico, .cur, .xmp, .png, .dll, .icl. The program also has the ability to explore files with other extensions different than the above-mentioned.
it is enough to select a file to view all of the icons/cursors contained in the file. On the right-hand side of the main window, we see all the contained icons. If the icons/cursors are available in different sizes, we will be able to preview them using the upper tabs. It is usual that each icon is available in various sizes, for example, 16x16, 24x24, 32x32, 48x48, etc. Not all icons have several sizes, for example, a .exe file can contain 5 icons. 4 of them are available in 16x16 and 32x32 sizes, and the other icon will be available only in 32x32.
We can add files to a list of favorites, so the next time we start the program, we will not have to navigate through the file system to find the files that contain our favorite icons since we only need to go to the favorites list, which is located in the upper tabs on the left side of the program.
To add a file to our favorites, select the file and press the “Favorites >>” button, located at the bottom left of the program.
A very practical option that is included in the program is search icons/cursors. To do this, we must select a directory, along with the minimum and the maximum number of icons/cursors which should contain a file to appear in the search results. For example, if we search on “C:\” for files that contain a minimum of 2 icons/cursors, and a maximum of 5 icons/cursors, it will show files that match that search criteria, so the files that contain 1 single icon/cursor, and more than 5 icons/cursors, will not appear on the results.
Saving an icon/cursor, we must select it on the list of icon/cursor and press “Save”, located at the bottom right of the screen. When saving the icon/cursor, we can choose the size of the icon/cursor, and the format of the file to be saved: .ico, .cur, .bmp, and .png.
If we select several icons and click on the “Save” button, the program will save the icons selected as a library of icons or cursors (.dll, .icl).
As we see, this is a simple program that allows extracting easily and organized way the icons/cursors of various data files. Without a doubt, a very good option for those who need a utility of these features, since the program is free and the functionalities are very practical.
